The final day for packhouse inspections of Valencia oranges destined for the European Union from regions outside the Western and Northern Cape is September 27, the industry bodies say.
The deadline gives growers and exporters still supplying the EU market time to complete their final orders and meet programme commitments.
The associations say the decision reflects the South African citrus industry’s commitment to being a responsible and reliable supplier of high-quality fresh fruit to trading partners worldwide.
“The CGA and FPEF thank growers, exporters and other industry role-players for their continued dedication to an industry that supports more than 160,000 livelihoods on farms and in rural communities across South Africa,” they say.
